Overpopulation and Beach Capitalism:
Overpopulation and capitalism of the beach can be very dangerous. With the development and over development of beach properties, comes the depletion of the quality of beaches. Our neighbor Miami Beach was ranked #11 on Huffington Post's 12 Most Overcrowded Beaches in the World. Mary Ellen Harte Ph. D. biologist says, "Unsustainable population levels are depleting resources and denying a decent future to our descendants. " With greater beach populations come greater responsibility.
Over Fishing:
Over fishing can lead to a lack of biodiversity, according to overfishing.org over 25% of all the world's fish stocks are either over exploited or depleted. Worldwide about 90% of the stocks of large predatory fish stocks are already gone. We are losing a valuable food source and we are losing species as well as entire ecosystems, which means the ecological unity is under stress and at risk for collapse. (overfishing.org)
Pollution:
There are many types of pollution, while we were at the beach we saw water, land and air pollution. When we looked up at the sky we could see the occasional plane fly over us and leave a chain of white contamination. According to dosomething.org, the Mississippi River carries an estimated 1.5 million metric tons of nitrogen pollution into the Gulf of Mexico each year, creating a "dead zone" in the Gulf each summer about the size of New Jersey.
